To The Mental Arts Community:
2020 has taught me a lot about myself, my community, and my world. Here are the top 20 lessons that I learned in 2020.
Feeling feelings is important. Sometimes it is impossible to think your way out of a problem. Sometimes all you need to do is to acknowledge whatever is happening.
Learning is a painful process. But you can learn to embrace the struggle.
The places of weakness are during times of transition. This goes for jiu jitsu, as well as life.
Podcasts take a lot of work, but boy, the end result is worth it.
Friends come and go, but you can always be kind.
Recovery feels so damn good.
If you work towards your goals, you can achieve them.
It is possible to hold multiple conflicting ideas and emotions inside of you. That is the precious (and perilous) part of being human.
Instagram doesn’t work for me. It’s toxic.
I am empathetic.
Things are abundant, but also really precious.
You sing because you can.
My art is motivated by the opportunity to share and form connections.
Comparison is the thief of joy.
Self-compassion is the giver of love.
Quiet confidence is knowing that this is the way.
I can grant myself permission to pause.
If there’s a part of me that I don’t like, sometimes the better thing is to acknowledge and try to understand it. After all, it is part of me. I don’t need to try to solve it right away.
Therapy is necssary.
My jiu jitsu is always the truest expression of me.
Thanks for your support all these challenging months.
